Meet Our Founders
The Each One, Help One Scholarship Fund was founded by two physician assistants, Linda Primus and Hilsa Walters-Pelham.
In 2019, they went on a medical mission to Zambia and met a wonderful young man who was studying for his medical degree. Despite his parents being deceased and having to finance his education, he diligently assisted Linda and Hilsa in the clinics. They kept in contact with him, sending him funds from time to time. Today, that young man is a graduate of a prestigious medical school and embarking on his new career.
Being driven by the “Black Men in White Coats” documentary, Linda and Hilsa were determined to help persons of color who want to pursue a career in the medical field to achieve their goals. With this in mind, they founded the Each One Help One Foundation [a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization] in 2022.
Our Mission
How the Each One, Help One Scholarship Fund Makes a Difference.
The mission of the Each One Help One Scholarship Fund is to provide medical education to disadvantaged students of color all around the world. A lack of finances should not be a barrier for our young men to attend medical school. Our scholarship fund not only provides financial grants to worthy students, but we also provide school application help, mentoring, and tutoring if needed.
Our goal is to train our scholarship recipients to continue and “pay it forward” by helping others that come after them. This way, for every one person we help, another one gets help. Our vision is to create a community of support for aspiring medical professionals who may not have the same financial opportunities as others.
Why Medicine?
According to the World Health Organization, there is a global shortage of healthcare workers, with low- and middle-income countries experiencing a shortfall of approximately 18 million healthcare workers. By empowering male medical students, our scholarship fund is contributing to the development of a skilled healthcare workforce in these countries, ultimately improving access to quality healthcare services.
By supporting aspiring medical students, The Each One, Help One Scholarship Fund is creating a more diverse and inclusive medical workforce that is better equipped to serve the needs of diverse communities worldwide.
